The Lakeshore covers 63, 372 acres and has about 200,000 visitors
a year.  It was established on September 26, 1970.  It is open
every day of the year.  Bayfield, Wisconsin is right by the Apostle
Islands.

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is in the Great Lakes
region of the United States and includes 21 islands and 12   
miles of mainland off Lake Superior.  It is known for its beautiful cliff formations, sea caves, sandscapes and
beaches.  It is one of the most wild and lovely areas of this region.

There are 800 species of plants in the Lakeshore region including many on Wisconsin’s endangered or
threatened list.  Common animals are white-tailed deer, black bear, red fox, coyote, otters and beaver.
Eight historic lighthouses are listed in this area.  Devils, Michigan, Raspberry and Sand Island lighthouses can
be toured.  Some of the lighthouses are still in use.  Tours are offered from mid-June through September by
request from 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Visitors are encouraged to bring their own boat or kayak to explore.  However, the Apostle Island Cruise
service also offers cruises and shuttles.

Activities at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore include boating, lighthouse tours, scuba diving, hiking,
fishing, hunting and camping.
Where Can I Find Coupons & Discounts for
Apostles Islands National Lakeshore?

  • Entrance into the Apostle Islands National
    Lakeshore is FREE.  However, there is a fee for
    some interpretive programs.  

  • There is a fee for parking in some areas.  You can
    purchase a yearly parking pass for some savings.

  • Interpretive programs offer a Family fee.  This is a
    savings for families of three or more.

  • Camping is a great way to save money.  Camping at
    the Lakeshore starts at $10.
  • Hiking is a FREE activity.  Apostle Islands National Lakeshore offers many trails, most of which are on
    the islands.  These often lead to quarries, old farm sites, historic logging camps, beaches and scenic
    overlooks.  Besides the trails, visitors can use the beaches, such as Little Sand Bay, Meyers Beach and
    more for walking and exploring.

  • Permits are required for scuba diving and are FREE.

  • The park allows reasonable amounts of fruits, berries and nuts to be gathered for personal use for FREE.

  • If you are staying at a hotel or Bed and Breakfast, cheaper rates are often found between October and
    mid-June during the “off” season.  

  • During the “in” season, from mid-June to October, cheaper rates for lodging can often be found during
    the weekdays.

  • The bayfield.org website offers coupons and discounts on items throughout the year.  These include
    golfing, kayaking, shopping, lodging and dining.  Coupons change regularly throughout 2012.

  • Big Water Coffee offers a free cup of coffee with the purchase of a bag of freshly roasted coffee
    beans.  No coupon needed.

  • Sailboats Inc. offers sailing specials during certain times of the year.  Check out their website for
    current pricing.  

  • Valpak online and through the local mail will have coupons for the area.

  • Local ads and newspapers will offer coupons throughout the year.
