The Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography is home to more then 350 species (5,000 animals) of sea
animals. It focuses on the marine life of the Pacific from the northwest to the South Pacific. The aquarium
interprets the research done at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and offers science education. It is the
U.S.'s largest oceanographic museum.

Birch Aquarium has a tide pool, hands-on exhibits, 46 tanks with marine animals and a simulated underwater ride.
Another unique area to visit in the aquarium is the Ocean Supermarket. There you can scan grocery items and see,
which ingredients came from the ocean. Check out the gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean too!
Exhibits include Boundless Energy, Feeling the Heat: The Climate Challenge, There’s Something about Seahorses,
Whales: Voices in the Sea, Wonders of Water, Coral Displays, Hall of Fishes and Tide Pool. There are a dive show and
five feedings that go on during the week. Not every feeding is done every day so if there is a certain one that you
would like to see check out their website for the feeding schedule.

interesting to watch. The aquarium also offers educational programs for schools, colleges and the general public.

- A $12 Military discount ticket is offered with a valid ID.

- The 2012 Entertainment Book has a 50% off discount
coupon for up to two aquarium admissions.
- From March - September of 2012, Birch Aquarium is offering half off it's regular admission prices for San
Diego Residents on the 20th of every month to celebrate it's anniversary. Good for residents in the 91901-
92199 zip codes. You must show a valid ID with zip code. Two children per valid adult.
- Students with an ID can receive a ticket for $10.
- A $2 off printable coupons good for up to six people and good until September 30, 2012 is available at www.
sandiegan.com. Other San Diego tourist websites may also have coupons.
- You can sign up for the Birch Aquarium enewsletter online and receive first hand news about special deals
and events.
- February is Museum Month. You can receive 1/2 off ticket prices at over 40 museums in the San Diego area
for up to four people. A Culture Card can be picked up at Macy's in San Diego. Many of the museums have
special activities during this month.
- The aquarium often has special offers announced on their website. One current offer is if you have
Foursquare app on your smart phone and show the check-in screen at the ticket booth, you can receive $2
off up to four adult admissions.
- Birch Aquarium participates in the Go San Diego Card. You can purchase a Go San Diego Card by the amount
of day you want to visit attractions and then you have FREE unlimited admission into a large number of
attractions. Some of the other attractions are Legoland, Knott’s Berry Farm and Knott’s Soak City
Waterpark.
- AAA members can receive $1 off admission price for up to four people when they show their AAA card at
the ticket counter.
- AARP members can receive 25% off admission for up to six people when showing their AARP card.
- FREE admission is offered to the UCSD Alumni Associates and Benefactors with they show their Alumni
