Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is a walking safari with over 89 acres.  This Florida zoo is home to over 1,500
animals with about the same number of exotic plant species.  You enter the zoo at the Main Camp Safari
Lodge, which holds the ticket gates, a gift shop and Main Camp Café.  Main Camp Café serves food items
such as drinks and snacks.
As you follow the main path, you will pass Stingray Bay, the Snake Building and Plains of East Africa on
your right.  This area, called the African Loop, offers a 1,400-foot long boardwalk for guests to use and
see the African animals in an open environment.  Here you can see Nile crocodile, wart hogs, antelope,
storks, cheetah, rhino, ostrich, elephants, lion, leopards and monkeys.

After coming back to the main path, you will see Savanna Blooms Garden on the right and Wild Florida on
the left.  Savanna Blooms is a two-acre garden featuring South African oasis plants such as African water
lilies and flowering vines.  This area also includes the Giraffe Overlook.  Wild Florida contains native
animals and plants of the state of Florida.  Visitor can see black bears, red wolves, bald eagles, Florida
panthers and a Reptile House.  The River Valley Aviary is in the Wild Florida area.  It is home to a number
of African, South American and Asian birds.  The birds fly free in this lovely exhibit with a stream,
waterfall and small bridges.  The Great Apes area is immediately following Wild Florida on the main path
and is home to the Western Lowland gorilla, bonobo and monkeys.

Following Savanna Blooms Garden on the main path is Range of the Jaguar.  This is an exhibit you will not
want to miss.  This AZA award-winning South American exhibit holds six jaguars, which is one of the
largest in the United States.  This area also includes the Emerald Forest Aviary.  This open aviary has
cardinals and macaws as well as pudu deer, freshwater fish and freshwater stingrays.  Other things to see
at the Range of the Jaguar exhibit are a replica of an old Mayan temple that holds exhibits of bushmaster
snakes, poison dart frogs, boa constrictors, anaconda, tamarins and more.

Opposite of Range of the Jaguar on the main path is Splash Ground Play Park.  Children could probably
spend hours here playing.  This water play area includes a 4,000 square foot water playground and splash
area.  It also has mazes, a Discovery Center, vines to climb on, a tree house, rock wall and an artifacts
digging pit.  It also includes the penguin exhibit called Tuxedo Coast.

The next areas on the main path is the Gardens at Trout River Plaza, Save the Frogs and Australian
Adventure on the right.  The Gardens at Trout River Plaza are beautiful with flowering plants, oak trees,
red, maple trees, magnolia trees and forest pansies.  It is a great place to sit and take a breather while
enjoying the scenery.  The Save the Frog exhibit shows guests the dangers that frogs face today, how it
affects us and what we can do to help.  Australian Adventure is home to cassowary, Lories, lorikeets,
kangaroos and wallabies.

The main path turns and dead-ends into the Asian Bamboo Gardens and the Komodo Dragon Exhibit.
This peaceful area seems to take you to Asia.  It contains a lush Bamboo Mist Forest, a Lotus pool, bloom
bridge, koi pond, and waterfalls.  At the end of the garden, as if just wandering the area, are two
Komodo dragons.
