Safari West is a wildlife preserve for over 400 kinds of mammals and birds. Most of the animals you can
see there are from Africa and Madagascar. The preserve is AZA accredited and is also involved in
breeding and research as well as public interaction. Many animals roam free at Safari West with visitors
touring in guided vehicles. The Classic Safari Tour is a three-hour tour and takes you up close and
personal with several animals. Private safaris and a Winos and Rhinos tours are also offered.
Some of the many safari animals that you can see on your visit to thie Safari West Wildlife Preserve
include addax, antelope, bongo, cape buffalo, cheetah, gazelle, giraffe, impala, lemur, monkey, rhino,
serval warthog, wildebeest and zebra. In addition, there are a large number of birds and reptiles that
live here. Private animal encounters can be arranged for an additional fee and include animal
presentations, photos with a cheetah, Fast Cat Alley, Behind the Scenes tours and Keeper of the Day
lectures. Special events such as Twilight on the Serengeti are held throughout the year at this safari in
California.
Lodging is available at Safari West in the form of tents or cottages. Both are fully equipped and while the
tents are canvas they still have bathrooms and can be considered luxury accommodations.

- Discounted admission rates for Safari West
are offered during the winter months for
both the tours and lodging.
- Safari West offers Full Moon Madness
discounts on certain dates. This includes
one night of lodging and continental
breakfast. Tours and other meals are
extra. 2011 dates are June 4 & 5, August
21, September 12 & 26, October 11 & 12,
November 7 & 13 and December 18. Other
specials are offered throughout the year

- During the month of September 2011, you can receive 10% off any wine tasting safari by booking

- If you wish to pair your trip to Safari West with a trip to Sonoma Canopy Tours, you can receive
combo pricing that offers you a discount on doing both along with a private wine tasting. More

- In November and December, Safari West holds Open House Sundays that offer discounted prices.
- You can sign up to have special events and discount admission specials sent to your email address
on the Safari West website.
- Special Classic Safari tours discounts are offered through the year by Safari West. An example of
this was this summer’s Wild Child special that offered a FREE child’s admission with the purchase
of an Adult admission. (One per family)

Safari West Details
Lodging is available at Safari West in the form of tents or cottages. Both are fully equipped and while the
tents are canvas they still have bathrooms and can be considered luxury accommodations.
Classic Safari Tours are scheduled five times a day at 9 am, 10 am, 1pm, 2 pm and 4 pm. The tour includes
about two hours of driving and a 30 to 45 minute walk. The roads are very bumpy
Regular Classic Safari Tour prices are Adults $68, Children (3-12) $30 and Toddlers (1-2) $10. Reservations
are required and can be made online or over the phone.
Water bottles can be brought on the tour. Food is offered at a snack bar during the summer months. A
café is available for meals with a reservation.
Safari West Handicap Information
The vehicle tours are not wheelchair accessible. However, if you are able to transfer into the vehicle by
yourself or with the help of friends or family, you can enjoy the tour. Guests must be able to sit by
themselves or with the help of a caregiver over bumpy roads for two hours. Wheelchairs can be left
safely at the boarding area. Plans are in the works to improve the tours for disabled guests. The walking
portion of the tour is wheelchair accessible but you may need small assistance in some areas. If you have
difficulty walking, you should be aware that some of the areas are dirt paths. Wheelchairs are available
FREE of charge.
Two handicapped accessible tent cabins are offered that have handicapped seating, rails in the
bathroom, ramps to doors and deck and a handicapped parking space.
Sign language interpreters are offered FREE for those with hearing impairments. Reservations need to
be made at least 2 weeks in advance for an interpreter.
With reservations, a tactile tour can be provided for the vision impaired. A sighted companion should
accompany them but if one is not available, a guest service person can be provided. Web materials in
18-point font can be sent by regular mail or emailed to guests ahead of time.
