The Sequoia Park Zoo was founded in 1907 and is the oldest zoo in California. Although not a large zoo, there are some unique exhibits. The Nancy Hilfiker Memorial Aviary allows you to walk through a free flight area that houses local and tropical birds. The Barnyard is home to donkeys, alpacas, rabbits and many other animals with which children can interact. The Secrets of the Forest is an interactive indoor display that focuses on the local ecosystem such as banana slugs, king snakes and pond turtles.
Some of the other animals that you can see at the Sequoia Park Zoo are gibbons, spider monkey, black bear, Gray fox, tamarins, owl, flamingo, peccary and red pandas.
This California zoo offers a number of educational opportunities. Zoofari Adventures are educational classes are held for ages 5-11 throughout the summer. Field trips are offered to schools and are cheaper with a reservation. These can include zoo tours, movies, a visit to the Contact Corral in the Barnyard and scavenger hunts.
